The systemic tests carried out in the schools that form part of District 9 of the Western Cape Department of Education showed some very encouraging results. It turned out that in the field of literacy three of the five primary schools that had made most progress were schools that were supported by the Helderberg Sunrise Rotary club. The school that made most progress (also in the entire Western Cape) was Solomon Qatyana. This school received a special mention as both their literacy and numeracy levels increased by 17.9% and 17.2% respectively. The other schools that showed substantial progress in literacy were Nomzamo Primary and Umnqophiso Primary. The results of the systemic tests in Grade 6 also showed that Danie Ackerman Primary School was among the top performers in terms of growth percentage for literacy as well. These results indicate that our investments have borne fruit. Congratulations to our club and a huge thank you to all our sponsors.
